Reed Falls is located just North of kingfield, just before the Carrabassett Vet Office, park in the turnout and your in for a relatively easy 1/2 mile hike to the falls.

Warmer Today

Image
Today wasn't as sunny as yesterday, but it was a bit warmer, but not quite springlike yet.  A covering of new snow freshened things up a bit and it was really quiet on the mtn.  Max Headroom, Bubblecuffer and Sheerboom are skiing really well.  The groomers are doing an amazing job.  Reggae is  a few days away.  After skiing today I went for a hike to Reed Brook Falls, still a lot of snow on the trail but the water is flowing

Still winter out there!

The past few days have been cold, temps in the teens in the morning, it may be April but spring temps have yet to arrive.  Reggae is only a few days away, the crowds will be crazy but this week its quiet on the mtn.  Conditions are still really good, hard and fast.  the ungroomed is firm but still great.  Still plenty of coverage.  King Pine and Whiffletree are now closed mid week but will reopen on Friday for the weekend.

Backside To Burnt

Image
Skied the backside, best conditions in years, then skied and hiked across the golden road to the Burnt Mtn trail, then hiked to the top of Burnt and skied the new Kennebec glade.  A great adventure but was very slow going.

Backside and Burnt Mountain are open

After 50 inches of snow in 2 weeks, the Backside of the mtn and Burnt Mountain opened this past weekend.  The Skiing is amazing, the groomers are deep packed powder and the bumps are soft and huge.  The Trees are skiing great.  The past few days have been a little windy, King Pine and Timberline have been on wind hold, but hiking to the top has been allowed.

Sunny Day

The Sun was out all day and temps were in low 30's, there was some wind but not enough to affect the lifts.  Conditions were amazing considering all the crazy weather we've had.  Haulback, Widowmaker, Ramdown, Gondi Line, Nitro/Wedge, Sluice, Narrow Gauge, Sluice, Tote Road and Sluice were all really good, a few icy patches but not bad.  Choker, Cribworks and Lower Boomauger were ungroomed and skied really good

Froze up again

Tough morning at Sugarloaf this morning, yesterdays 60+ degree temps were amazing, but by midnite temps had dropped to 30 and the snow froze up overnight. The groomers did a lot of work over nite.  This morning DRC is the high lift with Boardwalk and Lower Winters Way.  More trails should open as the day goes on.  Snowmaking has fired up on Tote Road, Kings Landing and Hayburner.

Feb spring skiing

Temps hit 68 today at the base of the superquad and the sun was out in full force. all lifts except for Timberline and West Mtn were open today. Skiing was springlike, and bare spots are starting to show on several trails. temps will drop tonight and everything is going to freeze up by tomorrow morning

New Bike Shop

Allspeed bikes out of Portland is opening a bike shop in the Outdoor Center in the same location of Bob Ash's shop and plan to open towards the end of may and offer guided tours

Another Freeze up

Conditions were at least good for a little while, rain last night froze everything. Grooming started on Tote Road and Kings Landing early in the morning, The Superquad opened around 9:30 with Tote Road, Kings Landing and Hayburner, Sluice and Spillway opened later.  Conditions were mostly granular, but one more night of grooming everything will be much better.

Pow Day

A foot of new snow, conditions everywhere are amazing!

Blower Pow

Image
It started snowing around 11am and really started dumping around 2pm.  Its super light, tomorrow morning will be amazing. Today was cold and windy, the humidity was almost 100% so it was a raw wind. All lifts were running and conditions are amazing.  Trees are starting to fill in again

Conditions are Amazing

What a difference from last week.  Almost everything below Spillway X-cut is reopen and i took a run through the trees today. Some Flurries today and a lot of sun.  Conditions are back to Powder and Packed powder, Double Bitter, Winters way, Bubblecuffer, Ripsaw, Glancer, Sheerboom and Boomauger are back open and amazing. Snow on the way tomorrow

Its Snowing

Snowing today and tonight, could see 3-5 inches by tommorow. The ungroomed trails are starting to open up again and of course the groomers have done an amazing job.  No Timberline today for wind.  Snowmaking is down for a few days, but will fire up again soon.  Could see another storm wednesday

Snow Tomorrow

Image
Over the past several days, we've seen 3-4 inches of new snow, every little bit helps, we could see 5-8 inches tomorrow into tomorrow night.  Conditions get better every day as the Groomers work there magic.  Snowmakers are now on White Nitro, Wedge and Cruiser.  Windrow and West Mtn are now open thanks to the snowmakers this past week. Cold Today.  Around 0 at the base and below 0 at the top, it is a little windy, timberline is on wind hold today. Mallett Brothers play at The Rack tonight

Wind Hold

Really windy today, DRC was open early then the winds picked up more and everything went on wind hold.

Humid Day

Today was mostly cloudy, and very humid, it felt much colder than it should have.  Temps in the 20's.  Conditions today were pretty good, lots of flat light.  Snowmaking today on Haulback, Widowmaker and Flume.  Kine Pine should reopen saturday morning.

Hats off To The Amazing Snowmakers and Groomers

Back on the mountain today, temps were in the 20's, with only a little wind and flurries all day.  The Groomers and snowmakers have done an amazing job getting the mtn back into shape after the rain.  Kings Landing, Spillway, Sluice, Tote Road and Scoot were all amazing packed powder.  The Snowmakers are working hard to get Haulback reopen and Timberline trail should be open soon. $49 Lift tickets for Mainers all week.

Reed Falls

Image
Was going to ski today, but decided to give the groomers and snowmakers another day to work there magic, instead i went for a 2 mile run this morning, brr, then went for a hike to Reed Falls.  The trail is mostly frozen, I did break through a few times, but a great hike.

Rainy Day

Skied 3 runs today, Tote Road, Scoot and Kings Landing, conditions were variable but not too bad.  Pouring rain and Wind, we could see some snow out of the end of the storm. All lifts were shut down by 2 today because of wind and rain.

The Warm up

Temps warmed up into the 30's today, it was a mostly cloudy day and a bit of wind at the top of skyline.  The groomed trails were a little firm, but the ungroomed was super soft and sticky.  Bubblecuffer, and Winters Way were really good, nice soft bumps, Binder was good, a little rocky but not bad. Rain on the way for tomorrow with snow at the end of the storm, hopefully the mtn doesn't get beat up too bad.

Amazing Day

Image
Today was an amazing day, Plenty of sun and temps in the high 20's.  Conditions have been incredible all week, Powder everywhere you go. Left sides of Ripsaw, Choker, Bubblecuffer and Winters Way are all drifted in.

Happy New Year

First day of the new year and first day I have skied since Christmas, although i only took 1 run.  5 below and a strong wind was a bit chilly.  Sunny with Clouds, it will warm up in the next few days. Double Bitter was amazing.  Timberline was on wind hold and snowmaking is set to resume soon.
